Adoption Information:
Adult Dogs have an average Adoption Fee of $250.00
This helps to cover the costs of Desexing, Vaccination, Microchipping, Worming, Registering, Flea Treatment and Heartworm Prevention that are incurred by our Rescue. This fee may be more or less, depending on the cost incurred by each animal. Some animals may not require the 'full treatment'. This fee also assists with the cost of food, bedding, toys, etc to make life a little nicer for these animals.
Dogs over 6yrs of age are available for a reduced fee of $150.00 for Aged Pension Card holders only . (Please be aware that we may ask to view your Aged Pension Card prior to Adoption).
PLEASE NOT THAT DESEXING IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
Before you decide to adopt a dog, have you considered:
1) Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment, especially when that pet is a Chinese Crested. These dogs require special homes, and alot of care. We look for forever homes for these dogs so they never have to find themselves in a pound or shelter again.
2) Chinese Cresteds require decent time with their humans, and don't do well left alone alot. They are likely to display behavioural problems if forced to spend excessive amounts of time alone.
3) Cresteds need exercise to keep them fit, healthy & happy. Just because they are smaller, doesn't mean they don't need a fair amount of exercise.
4) This breed has special needs, such as frequent washinf of their skin (if hairless) as well as sun burn prevention. Do you have the time and money to ensure your pet stays healthy.
5) This may not be suitable for your lifestyle or environment. Please don't be offended if we say so. We would however be willing to help you find the perfect pet to suit you.
6) It is VITAL to do alot of research on this breed! The more you know about their needs and requirements, the better.
7) Taking your time to do your research and prepare your home to suit the Crested's needs. They will require an area for them to be safely enclosed while you are away, where they are safe from the sun, etc...
8) Puppy or Adult, there are differences that you should consider.
9) Grooming - the hairless variety require a great deal of skin care, and the powderpuff variety require a great deal of coat maintenance. Is this a financially viable option for you and do you know how to maintain the coat?
10) Expectations of the dog: Are they realistic? Is the dog you're considering suitable for what you're looking for?
11) Other animals in your home - some Cresteds aren't suitable around other animals. This could be due to past experiences. What measures will you put in place to ensure all animals stay safe?
12) Fencing: Suitable fencing to keep your Crested in and other dogs out.
13) Future vet fees: If the worst was to happen, will you be prepared financially or have considered Pet Insurance? Cresteds can have a number of health problems, such as teeth loss and skin problems. Are you prepared for this?
14) Having human babies: Will this effect the time that is spent with the dog, if so, how much?
15) Dogs will do things that upset you, are you ready for this?
16) How are you planning on training your dog. Are you prepared to provide sufficient training and entertainment so this very intelligent breed doesn't become bored?
17) If the dog develops a behavioural problem, are you prepared to seek out the assistance with this problem?
These are just SOME of the factor you need to consider before adopting a Chinese Crested as a pet. However, don't let this scare you away. Once you invite a Crested into your home... you will never regret it.
